What’s Cooking in the Kitchen - Irish Soda Bread

Kitchen Bowl.jpg

When the Fencibles arrived in New Zealand in 1847 they lived in tents for the first few years and all the cooking would have been done on an open fire outside. When their cottage was finally built it would have had a kitchen, but not as we know it today. With no electricity there was no fridge, cooker or appliances, and no running water, so things were very different.

Have a look at the worksheet and work out some of the differences between the kitchens. Once you have done that why not make some yummy soda bread?
